Atlanta International Airport, Elliott Airport in Dawsonville & More…

Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one hour and 15 minutes south of Dawsonville, held its ranking as the world’s busiest airport in 2011, both in passengers and number of flights by accommodating 92 million passengers (252,000 passengers daily) and nearly one million flights.  Many of the nearly one million flights are domestic flights from within the United States.  As an international gateway to the United States, Hartsfield–Jackson ranks seventh, and the airport services every continent in the world.  The airport’s domestic terminal is serviced by the Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit’s rail line for hassle free access to the airport from North Atlanta.


Just a four minute drive from the central business district of Dawsonville is Elliot Airport, owned by racing great Bill Elliot.  Accommodating single and multi-engine aircraft, the runway is 4200 ft long and 40 ft wide with asphalt or bituminous concrete surface types.  Air charter services are also available at the Elliot airport, offered by OneSky.


In the nearby city of Gainesville, the Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport offers 81 T-Hangars and 12 Corporate Hangars which are available to lease for both private and corporate aircraft. The Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport consists of two runways. Runway 11/29 is 4,001 feet long and runway 4/22 is 5,500 feet long with high intensity lighting and ILS (Instrument Landing System).  Other local airports in the area offer a number of aircraft options.
