Board of Equalization
The Dawson County Board of Equalization (BOE) consists of citizens of the county appointed by the Grand Jury for the purpose of providing independent and unbiased hearings of appeals regarding property taxes.
Qualification of BOE members are as follows:
- Eligible to serve as a Grand Juror
- Owner of real property in Dawson County
- High School graduate
Prior to hearing appeals, all newly appointed members must complete 40 hours of training on the appraisal and equalization process, and be sworn under oath by the Clerk of Superior Court. All other members must complete an 8-hour training update annually.
Members and Alternate Members of the Board of Equalization serve a three-year term of office.

CAN I RESCHEDULE MY PROPERTY APPEAL HEARING?
Yes, you may reschedule your Property Appeal Hearing one time. You will need to notify the BOE of this reschedule through a written request by email at awilkie@dawsoncountyga.gov, USPS mail, or drop off the request to the Dawson County Clerk’s office located at 25 Justice Way, Suite 1302, Dawsonville, GA 30534 at least (1) one day prior to your scheduled hearing.
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY DECISION LETTER?
Your Decision Letter will be given to you at the conclusion of your Appeal Hearing.
HOW DO I APPEAL THE BOARD OF EQUALIZATION DECISION?
Once the Board of Equalization reaches a decision regarding an appeal, should the taxpayer disagree, said taxpayer has 30 days from the date of the decision to file an appeal to the Superior Court of Dawson County through the Board of Assessor’s office.
