Fire Marshal’s Office
The Fire Marshal's Office is responsible for:
- Required plan review and approval of site, building, and fire protection system plans for new construction of commercial or assembly use buildings, multifamily apartments, and residential subdivisions.
- Plan review and approval for tenant change and remodeling/renovation of existing commercial or assembly use buildings when required.
- NOTE: All plans and details for review are to be submitted in PDF format to firesafety@dawsoncountyga.gov
- Issuance of required permits authorizing installation of all fire protection systems
- Issuance of required Emergency Services Certificates of Occupancy
- Review and approval of fire and life safety considerations related to special event permitting
- Issuance of required fireworks display and blasting permits
- Performing required fire and life safety inspections (50%, 80%, 100%, tenant change/C.O., annual, follow up, and complaint) of all commercial and assembly use structures
- Consideration of rezoning and plat recording applications relating to Emergency Services impacts
- Performing cause and origin investigations of fire incidents
- Investigation and prosecution of arson incidents
- COMMUNITY RISK REDUCTION through public outreach providing both commercial and residential fire and life safety education programs, teaching CPR/first aid/stop the bleed/and AED use, child safety seat installation, and day care provider first aid
- Performing requested residential fire hazard inspections and recommendations for improved safety
- Providing free smoke detectors and installation for Dawson County residents
