Stormwater Management
Point of contact for soil erosion/stormwater concerns: Robbie Irvin, Stormwater Manager, (706) 344-3500, ex 44412.
The Stormwater Management division promotes and protects the public's health and safety by providing programs and services to prevent flooding, provide adequate drainage, and protect and enhance water quality in local streams and rivers. Areas of focus include construction site erosion control, post-construction stormwater management, and Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE).
The Stormwater Manager will work collectively with other departments and local water management divisions to review erosion control plans and implement necessary standards of control that will protect the water quality and limit the impact of development on stream flows. In addition, he will perform site inspections during construction and post-construction to ensure compliance with development regulations and investigate illicit discharges into the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4).
Dawson County's Stormwater Management Program is not just a service we provide but a regulatory obligation. As part of the US EPA's Clean Water Act National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permitting program, we regulate the county's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). This designation was received in March of 2014. Since then, we've been required to apply for coverage under the State of Georgia Environmental Protection Division's (GEPD) general permit for small MS4's GAG610000 and to develop a Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP).
